Sebastian Vettel won’t be swapping his helmet for a microphone even if he does decide not to continuing racing beyond this season.
The four-time World Champion is currently considering his options for next season after Ferrari informed him that it would not be renewing his contract.
Vettel has stated several times that he is keen to continue in Formula 1 with the German believed to be considering an offer from Racing Point.
However, should he decide not to remain in Formula 1 after this season, don’t expect him to join the likes of Nico Rosberg or Jenson Button in the commentary booth.
“I don’t see myself as a TV expert,” grandprix247.com quotes the 33-year-old as having told Sky Deutschland.
“I like to talk, but I’m not sure I would be in good hands there.
“I think it’s easier to give answers than to ask questions and keep track of where the conversation is going.
“I don’t think it’s that easy, you have to prepare for it and so on.
“After a while you may better at it, but I don’t know.”
But while becoming a pundit may not be on his list of things to do next season, that doesn’t mean the German doesn’t have a list.
A “long” one in fact.
“I have a long to-do list,” said the father of three.
“Besides Formula 1, I have no time for anything, so the list is getting longer and longer.
“There is still a lot on the list. I have three children. It doesn’t make it easier to work through the list.”
Aside from considering an offer from Racing Point, which is believed to be waiting on Vettel before triggering an exit clause in Sergio Perez’s contract, former F1 driver turned commentator Ralf Schumacher says AlphaTauri, Vettel’s first F1 team, could be an option for next season.
The German reckons if AlphaTauri goes down the Racing Point road and copies the Red Bull F1 car, Vettel could be persuaded to join the team.
“I am firmly convinced that Sebastian will be on the grid in 2021,” Soymotor quotes Schumacher as having told Sky Germany.
“Sebastian excelled at Toro Rosso early in his career and his relationship with [team boss] Franz Tost is also very good.”
Schumacher added: “If it is assumed that Racing Point is completely legal, Red Bull could also do the same and give AlphaTauri a car of the same quality in 2021.”
