Guenter Steiner predicts 'no joy' at Silverstone

Guenther Steiner believes Haas will be in for a bad two weeks of racing at Silverstone as the VF-20 is suffering on the straights.

Although Haas scored its first point of the championship last time out in Hungary, the team is not in the best form this season.

Not only is the VF-20 lacking down the straights but its Ferrari engine isn’t helping the cause.

The Ferrari power unit is down compared to last year’s engine, putting all the Ferrari-powered cars, including the works team, on the back foot.

As such Steiner reckons Haas will struggle on the power-hungry Silverstone circuit.

“We know it is very power sensitive Silverstone,” he told Motorsport.com. “So there will be no joy.

“It’s fairly difficult for us to get points at the moment, and especially some of the races which are coming up, they’re not in our favour.

“We always try to do our best and maybe we can find some opportunity like we get [in Hungary], you never know.

‘If you give up you never find the opportunity, so you need to keep on trying to find something. But you don’t expect it.”

With its solitary point Haas is down in ninth place in the standings with only Williams, who has yet to score, behind it on the log.

The team is battling the likes of Alfa Romeo, another Ferrari-powered team, Williams and AlphaTauri.

Who comes out on top, Steiner reckons, will depend on the track.

“We are all mixing it up and I think it’s a little bit track depending who is on top of it: is it high speed, is it low speed?” he said.

“There’s a little bit of difference but I think we are in the midst of the teams you just mentioned.”

Formula 1 will spend two weekends racing around the Silverstone circuit in the British Grand Prix on August 2 and then the 70th Anniversary GP on August 9.

After that the circus will head to Barcelona for part three of the second triple header.
